Mount Meron opens a window onto one of Israel's richest experiences: Powerful scenery, early settlement, vibrant communities, and long-standing traditions. Views of Mount Hermon, the Golan Heights, and Safed blend into the story of Horbat Baq – a Jewish settlement attempt from the early 19th century – and the story of the Druze community in the Galilee. The phenomenon of the Huta, the remains of ancient settlements, and the encounter with the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai create a journey that connects nature, people, and spirit.
This unique tour brings us face to face with one of the richest areas in Israel. In layers of landscape, people, and story.
From the summit, the Upper Galilee region spreads out before us. – Mount Hermon, the Golan Heights, Ramat Dalton, and Safed – a landscape that combines altitude, nature, settlement, religion, and holiness. In the thick of the Mediterranean forest, we will stop at Khirbet Baq.
We will learn about Jewish settlement in the early years of the 19th century., An initiative by Jews from Safed who attempted to settle on the mountain and live off its resources – an early and intriguing chapter in the history of Jewish settlement in the Galilee.
To the south, the presence of Beit Jann and the Druze story The Galilee adds a layer of community and religion that has lived on this mountain for generations, and at the monument to the Druze soldier, we will find evidence of the blood covenant between the community and the State of Israel.
Along the way, you will discover an impressive ecological phenomenon – the great hota. – Tells the story of the mountain's karst: water, underground cavities, and streams. The remains of an ancient synagogue and a visit to the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai conclude the tour with a deep connection between the Galilee landscape, spiritual tradition, and continuous human history.
Guide details:
“I grew up in a traditional Jewish home in New York. We spent summer vacations with close family in Israel, and so I was quickly drawn to the country, its history, and its culture. Immigrating to Israel was a dream come true: to travel the land of our ancestors, to feel our history and roots while belonging to the young state.
I served in the IDF for about 10 years as a CBRN officer (that used to be a thing). After my service, I took part in the momentum of Israeli entrepreneurship and technology. For the last twenty years, I have managed marketing and business development in leading bio-med companies.
I have a BA in Biology, an MA in Business Administration, and an MA in Israeli Heritage, during which, as part of my thesis, I explored the place of science and technology in Zionist thought. I am a certified tour guide from the Ministry of Tourism, and a graduate of Yad Yitzhak Ben-Zvi.
Today I am returning to my old-new love: traveling through the charming landscapes of our country, and exploring a journey of three thousand years of heritage in a prosperous country full of attractions and entertainment.
I am happy to share this love with you.”
