Sunset and lantern tour on Dor Beach
Sunset tour and lanterns on Israel's most beautiful beach.
We will walk along the reefs and sandstone rocks, talk about the Phoenicians, and hear about Napoleon.
All this against the most beautiful backdrop imaginable.

Tour structure:

The city of Dor is most closely associated with the Phoenician people, who were in fact the first to turn it into a large provincial city.

The Phoenicians were a Canaanite people who settled on the Levantine coast at the beginning of the Iron Age (2000 BCE). Later, during the Roman period, when the Phoenicians fought against the Romans, they were called the Punic people (for those familiar with the Punic Wars).

The Phoenicians were the first to discover the technique of extracting purple dye from the murex shell, and are therefore most closely associated with the color. Some say that the name Phoenicians comes from the Greek word for purple, which is actually the color purple.

The sharp-spined and blunt-spined argamon are hard to find on beaches these days, but if you look for them, you can definitely find them, and even live ones.

The name suggests that it is a shell from which the color crimson can be extracted. What is the color crimson? We are all used to thinking of it as burgundy, but if you look in the dictionary, you will see that crimson is actually a purple color. It is a color that symbolizes splendor and glory.

Only people of high rank, such as kings and leaders, could afford a purple robe or tunic.

An artificial mound is a small hill made up of layers of human settlement over thousands of years.

Tel Dor is one such place. In Hebrew, we don't say "tלים" but "תילים." There are so many "תילים" in Israel that the word "tel" is also known in other countries.

As research deepens and delves deeper into archaeological sites, findings from increasingly ancient periods will be discovered.

During the trip, we heard many crickets chirping in the background. How can we tell that they were crickets and not cicadas? Cicadas can be heard in the morning and crickets in the evening. Crickets are active during these hours and court female crickets.

Based on the chirping rate, a man named Dolver developed a formula that calculates the temperature. So if you can count the number of chirps of a single cricket in one minute, you can plug that number into the formula and see what the temperature is where you are standing at that moment. Sometimes it's easier to just look at a thermometer or Google it :)

Additional information and frequently asked questions

If you arrive while the glass museum is still open, I recommend visiting it and completing the puzzle, which is very exciting for children.

If you arrive after opening hours, you can only reach the museum entrance and see the Greek ship that was found on the shores of Maagan Michael and restored in great detail, and even won the Corona prize for sailing from the Kishon harbor to the open sea.

You can see the original ship at the Hecht Museum at Haifa University, which is usually open all week and free of charge, but it is advisable to call ahead to check.

Tel Dor is located in a nature reserve, so after dark it is forbidden to be there, and at all hours of the day it is forbidden to light fires. Where is it permitted? On the nearby beaches, such as Neve Yam Beach, for example.

If you would like to enjoy swimming with a lifeguard (during swimming hours) and changing rooms, you can visit Dor Beach or Nahsholim Beach, which are located near the Tel Dor Nature Reserve.

About pizza! Not many people know this, but here's a great tip: there's a lovely couple in Kibbutz Nahsholim who make amazing pizzas at affordable prices. If you order, they'll deliver the pizza to the nature reserve or Dor Beach, wherever you are. The pizzas are guaranteed to be hot and delicious!

The pizza is called Pizza Karni 050-354-5541

You can park at Dor Beach (if you are heading there) or at Tel Dor National Park (if you choose to go there), but be aware that after 4:45 p.m., the Nature and Parks Authority closes the gates of Tel Dor National Park, so it is advisable to park outside the gates of the national park so that if you return after 4:45 p.m., your car will not be locked inside!

Parking is free! The sea belongs to everyone!

You can drive to Zichron Yaakov and eat at Uma, an excellent Asian restaurant! Or drive to Mol Zichron, a shopping center on Route 4, where you'll find Black Burger, Vivino, an Eastern restaurant, and other options.

The wonderful customers who were on the tour recommend!
