Come discover the magic of the Nachlaot neighborhood and the Mahane Yehuda Market - the largest and most vibrant market in Israel!

Tour structure:

* Clicking on each section opens extended information.

◀ We will see special synagogues.

◀We will hear the stories of:

  • Rabbi Aryeh Levin – the rabbi of the prisoners, a man of mercy and one of the famous rabbis in Nachlaot.
  • The Banaim – the family, which originated in Persia, settled in the Nachlaot neighborhood and became one of the pillars of Israeli culture.
  • Yitzhak Navon and others – the fifth president, who wrote the well-known play "The Sephardic Orchard."

It was built in 1885 and its houses were raffled off among the residents for a limited time.

The ultra-Orthodox courtyard neighborhoods preserve the traditional character of life in Nachlaot.

This is where they filmed the series "Shtisel".

The name of the neighborhood comes from the verse: "And he sat down in the firmament of his bow, and the seeds of his hands were scattered, from the hands of the mighty Jacob, from the shepherd, the stone of Israel," Genesis 49:24.

And some say that a stone in gematria = 53, as the number of the first houses in the neighborhood.

We will understand where the Mahane Yehuda Market began, more than a hundred years ago, and why it is located here.

◀ We will see traditional stalls alongside groundbreaking culinary talents who are reinventing Israeli cuisine.

◀ We will tell the stories of great personalities who grew up here in the market.

◀ Hear about the street art project of artist Salomon Souza

◀ We will talk about the future of this special market.

Those interested can return to the market to complete their Shabbat shopping, continue on public transportation, or return to the starting point (about a 5-minute walk).
