Culinary tour of Wadi Nisnas - authentic delicacies
We will tour the picturesque neighborhood of Wadi Nisnas, get to know the character of the neighborhood, and taste authentic delicacies prepared by the special people of Wadi Nisnas, such as pita with jibna, kanafeh, stuffed vegetables, fatayer, fata, manzala, and more.
The tour can be meat, vegetarian, or vegan; Wadi Nisnas has all the options.

Tour structure:

At the start of the tour, we will stop at Mama Pita, located at the entrance to Wadi Nisnas, outside the market.

You enter a small room filled with the charm of a family that specializes in one thing only – fresh pita bread from the taboon.

Next, we will stop at a hummus restaurant and taste a particularly original hummus dish called "Hafta," which includes yogurt, caramelized onions, pita croutons, tomatoes, parsley, and, on top of it all, clarified butter called "Samana.".

Wadi Nisnas is characterized by local women who sell their dishes from small stalls. Among the dishes are chobza stew, olives, authentic majadra, manzala (eggplant with chickpeas and peppers), stuffed grape leaves and cabbage, and more.

In Wadi Nisnas, there are several excellent places to sample kanafeh that is not overly sweet, with pistachios, and you can also add goat yogurt ice cream on top.

One of my favorite places for kanafeh is Star Sweet at Martin's Confectionery.

At Ziad's small stall, you can choose from a selection of spices that will help you with any illness or pain.

Moringa for appetite suppression, pigeon pea for kidney stones, hibiscus for fever reduction, and more.

At Ziad's stand, you should also try his homemade sumac, za'atar, tahini, and special yogurt.

If you're not vegetarian, it's worth stopping at Abu Shakra butcher shop and asking for the lollipops, which are actually sirloin skewers rolled with lamb fat, pistachios, and other ingredients of your choice.

Here you can enjoy exceptional meat sandwiches and smoked meats that are prepared on site.

Café Haifa is not just a place for coffee. It has good coffee and sugar-free halva (yes, you heard right!), and the big draw is the Gan Eden candy, which will make you feel like you're in paradise after you taste it.

Additional information and frequently asked questions

There is no official definition of the wadi's hours of operation, but if you want to be sure to see most of the vendors and stalls, it is best to arrive between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The last stalls close at 4 p.m. The market is open on Saturdays and every day of the week except Sundays.

The market is open on Saturdays, and additional stalls open on Saturdays and holidays, making Saturday the busiest and even slightly crowded day.

Most of the food on the tour and in the market in general is also suitable for vegans.

It is important to inform the guide before the trip about any specific sensitivities or allergies.

It is possible to tailor the tour to accommodate the above sensitivities, but it all depends on the level of sensitivity and sterility required for that participant.

Meat tastings are available at an additional cost by prior arrangement.

The tour is kosher without a kosher certificate. The tour passes through places that do not serve meat, but the places are open on Saturdays.

There are many free parking spaces along HaGanim Street and Ben Gurion Boulevard.

If you want to park close to the market entrance, you can do so on Huri Street, using a parking app, or in paid parking lots, such as the Neviim or Armon parking lots.

You can get there by bus or train.

If arriving by train, get off at the Central Station and walk about 13 minutes to the market.

With advance coordination and preparation, it is possible to arrange a tour tailored to celiacs. Of course, the kitchens in the market are not neutral and completely gluten-free, but it is possible to order gluten-free dishes.

The wonderful customers who were on the tour recommend!
