Want to experience an unconventional Selichot tour that touches on the courtyards of the old settlement and Mount Zion?
Have you always wanted to see the special connection between the hidden places of the Old City and the diverse mosaic of the Jerusalem world of selihot?
Would you like to get to know the famous piyyutim, sing them together and of course hear the sound of the shofar?
You are invited to the "Slichot and Courtyards in the Old City" tour!
On the tour, we will touch on the unique and so natural combination of the Selichot poems and the various Selichot customs with the sites of the Old City, the courtyards of the old settlement, and Mount Zion. We will get to know a whole world of customs and poems that span all the communities of the Old City, from Rabbi Shmuel Salant and the Ashkenazim and the Jerusalemite Pharisees, through the customs of the Rashash and the Yemenites, to Rabbi David ben Shimon and those from Morocco.
Of course, it is impossible without the story of King David and his connection to the Selichot on Mount Zion, the story of the High Priest on Yom Kippur and the blowing of the shofar at the observation deck of the Galician rooftops. At each stop of the tour we will sing a piyoot related to that station and of course the most famous piyoot, Adon Haselichot, to end the tour.
We will end the tour, of course, at the Western Wall plaza.
Welcome to an out-of-the-box Selichot experience!
