A full-day tour to Meteora, with a guide in English, as well as a certified Greek guide who will accompany and guide you during your visit to the monasteries.

Tour location

Meteora

Every year, millions of tourists from all over the world visit Greece – most of them do not skip Meteora, where a unique, breathtaking natural phenomenon is revealed before their eyes in all its beauty and splendor: huge cliffs towering above, with monasteries standing on them that seem to be "hanging in the sky" (Meteora in Greek). Beautiful paths winding and twisting between them create a spectacular, magical, and fascinating landscape that is simply not to be missed.

In Meteora, there is a cluster of several monasteries (built by Orthodox monks, in a manner that seems unbelievable) perched atop sharp, pointed cliffs, like giant arrows shot from the heart of a fertile valley to almost unimaginable heights.

The cliffs are the result of one of the world's most impressive natural phenomena: huge basalt rocks, hundreds of meters high, cone-shaped, rising to enormous heights from the ground, and on top of many of them is a monastery that looks as if it is suspended in the air.

Meteora is one of the most beautiful and most visited sites in Greece. It has long been recognized as one of the wonders of the world. In 1988, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Tour structure:

A place that once served as a refuge for monks in their seclusion and prayers.

We will look out from the monastery onto the spectacular views of the Thessaly Valley and towards the Pindus mountain range.

We are expected to arrive at Meteora at around 12:30 p.m. We will arrive at the parking lot of the monasteries located on the huge rocks and cliffs, some of the highest in Greece, and learn about the characteristics of all the monasteries currently active in Thessaloniki:

  • The Convent of St. Stephen.
  • Holy Trinity Monastery.
  • The women's monastery of Rosno.
  • Varlam Monastery.
  • The Metamorphosis Monastery of Jesus, Megalo Meteora, which is the largest monastery in Meteora.
  • Monastery of Saint Nicholas Anaphasas.

The lunch break will take place in front of the spectacular view of the Thessaly Valley and the monasteries in the villages of Kasteri/Kalambaka, at the foot of Meteora, and free time will be allocated for independent sightseeing and wandering around.

There is a wide variety of restaurants offering lunch.
