The Tel Aviv biography of Nathan Alterman – the great poet

The tour will also cover the poet's biography. Published several years ago, written by researcher Prof. Dan Laor, as well as in a recently published biography of his daughter, Tirza Atar, by historian and cultural researcher Dr. Moti Zeira, 'Because of the Night: Tirza Atar – A Life Story."

The tour will focus on the life and work of Nathan Alterman at various stops along the street., mainly on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv:

  • The places where he lived with his mother and father.
  • The apartments he moved out of.
Among other places, we will visit Ben Ami Street near Dizengoff Square, where the poet lived as a child.,
  • The places he loved, the cafés where he spent time and wrote.
  • At the end of the tour, we will also visit the house where Alterman lived during the last years of his life, on Nordau Street in northern Tel Aviv. There, we will also discuss the story of the end of the life of Tirza Atar, who lived nearby at the time.

Let's talk about his works that have been staged:

  • At the Ohel Theater, on Belinson Street.
  • At the Cameri Theater on the corner of Frishman and Dizengoff (now the Beit Lessin Theater).

We will discuss his mistress, Zila Binder, and examine which play he wrote following his frequent visits to her home in Florentin.

We will discuss what he wrote:

  • After the Altalena affair that took place in front of the Dan Hotel.
  • We will quote his words following the events of "Wingate Night" and the fall of Palmach fighter Bracha Fuld in the battle for the Sarona police station on the one hand, and the capture of the illegal immigrant ship "Bracha Fuld" off the coast of Tel Aviv on the other.

We will talk about the most distinctive songs of Tel Aviv. His like Gan Meir and the song for the opening of Tel Aviv Port.
We will stop at the home of Hannah Robina, to whom Alterman dedicated a poem.
