Notes

  • The tour includes walking through the streets of Florentin.

A street art tour of Florentin – a huge open-air gallery, with a guide who is also an active street artist.

Florentin sits on the seam: between Jaffa and Tel Aviv, between old houses and garages and new towers, between bakeries run by the same family for three generations and new boutique bakeries, and between immigrant communities and young families. Out of all this, in recent years, a huge open-air gallery has grown: artists from all over Israel and the world...

Out of all this, in recent years, a huge open-air gallery has grown: artists from all over Israel and the world come to create on its walls – sometimes commissioned and paid, sometimes with a blind eye turned, and often against the law, at the price of fines and nights in custody.

What we'll talk about along the way

  • What drives an artist to create in the street, without recognition and at personal risk?
  • What is the difference between graffiti and street art – and where is the line with vandalism?
  • Who are Tel Aviv's creators, and what are they trying to tell us about the city?
  • What are the rules of creating in the street?

Together we'll learn to read the writing on the wall, through the personal stories of a guide who creates in the street herself and her encounters with the artists.
