A tasting tour of HaTikva Market, where every bite tells the story of the place and its people – in the Tel Aviv market that has kept its authenticity.

The market was born in the 1930s as an alternative to the market of the village of Salame, which closed during the Arab Revolt, and became the hub of stalls and cooking for the HaTikva neighborhood, whose old-timers are mostly of Iraqi and Yemenite origin. Over the years they were joined by immigrants from the former Soviet Union, Morocco, Ethiopia, Greece and Turkey – and every stall adds another aroma and another flavor to the Israeli melting pot.

What awaits you on the way

  • Saluf, lahoh and the aromas of the market's spices
  • The landscapes that produced artists like Ofra Haza
  • The community spirit that created Bnei Yehuda football club
  • The market and the neighborhood that brought about the political upheaval of 1977
  • And when there's no room left – we move on to the dessert stomach
